ACT Government & Australia Council
Artist in Schools Program
Charnwood Dunlop School
Canberra, ACT (2015)
In 2015 the Australia Council funded the two-year ACT Government Art program ‘Artists-In-Schools Residency Program’ that placed Canberra artists within local schools. Sean Davey proposed a six-week photography project for the program that was picked up by Charnwood Dunlop School.
Over the course of the project, Sean engaged with students (kindergarten to year six), teachers and the wider school community, sharing his love for photography throughout the school. Sean facilitated students having their own experiences with digital photography; as photographers, collaborators and subjects.
A darkroom was set up in a storage room, enabling students to experience the magic of analogue photography, as well as using a large pinhole camera courtesy of PhotoAccess.
The residency program culminated with a large-scale exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre in Canberra.
